The trivium consisted of three of the seven liberal arts in medieval
times. Grammar (including literature), logic and rhetoric (including law)
were the courses of study necessary for a bachelor’s degree. Upon
completion of a B.A., students would move to their Master of Arts
which consisted of arithmetic, astronomy, geometry and music.
Together, the two courses of study comprised the seven liberal arts.
